ARGENTINE TANGO PROGRAM OVERVIEW
Argentine Tango is thought to have originated in the West Indies where it was danced only by the lowest classes. The name is from the African Tanganya. Later, the dance found its way into Argentina where it was re-created by the Gauchos in Buenos Aires. The Argentine Tango Program at La Luna teaches classes in salon style which relies upon the close embrace originally developed in the night clubs of historic Buenos Aires. This style is much different from the American Tango which is taught in both International Standard and American Smooth Ballroom dancing.
Both Group and Private Lessons are available on Wednesday evenings with our Tango Instructors, Jackie Shapiro and Roberto Pena. Private lessons start at $85 per hour.
Beginner students are welcome to join in our Level 1 Argentine Tango group class, which meets Wednesdays with Jackie & Roberto at 8:30pm.
